PlayGonu (playgonu.com) is a free collection of browser-based board games. This page explains what information the site collects, what it doesn't, and how third-party services used on the site may handle data.
You never need an account to play. Games against the computer or a friend on the same device run entirely in your browser and nothing about them is sent to us. In online games, the name you type, your moves and your chat messages pass through our server only to run the game with your opponent; they are kept in memory while the room is open and are not saved after it closes.
If you choose to create an account, you pick an ID and a password — we don't ask for an email address or any other contact details. We keep: your ID, your password in hashed form (we never store or see the password itself), your online win/draw/loss counts for Cham-gonu and Omok, your preferred language, and when the account was created and last changed. We use these only to sign you in, show your ID in online games and save your online record. We don't sell or share this information. Because there's no email on file, a forgotten password can't be recovered.
Signing in sets one cookie, pg_user, which keeps you signed in for up to 30 days. It is strictly necessary for the account to work and isn't used for tracking. To protect accounts, we briefly count failed sign-ins per ID and network address, and new sign-ups per network address; these counters reset within an hour.
Your account and record are kept until you delete the account, which you can do at any time from the account page — everything is removed immediately.
Account data is stored with Cloudflare (Cloudflare D1, which also hosts this site). Cloudflare acts on our behalf, only for this purpose, and may process data in the United States and other countries where it operates.
The site uses your browser's local storage, and a small cookie, to remember a few things on your own device only: your board color theme, your language choice, whether sound is muted, the name you last used online, and — if you play online without an account — your win/draw/loss counts. None of this is transmitted to us unless you choose to add your saved counts to a new account. You can clear this at any time through your browser's settings, and the site works fine without it.
On your first visit, PlayGonu's hosting provider (Cloudflare) may redirect you to a language-appropriate version of the site based on your country, inferred from your network connection — the same way most content-delivery networks route traffic. This happens at the network level and isn't logged or stored by PlayGonu itself. Picking a language manually overrides this for future visits.
PlayGonu may use Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand traffic at an aggregate level (pages visited, approximate location, device type) — this doesn't use tracking cookies or build an individual profile of you. If PlayGonu displays advertising (for example through Google AdSense), that advertising partner may independently set cookies or use similar technology to serve relevant ads and measure their performance, as described in Google's own policy on how it uses information from sites that use its services. You can opt out of personalized advertising through Google's Ads Settings or via industry tools like the Digital Advertising Alliance's opt-out page.
Anyone can play without giving any personal information. Signing up asks only for an ID and a password — no name, birth date, email or other contact details — so we don't ask for age. If you're a parent and want your child's account removed, contact us and we'll delete it.
If this policy changes — for example, if PlayGonu adds a new feature that handles data differently — this page will be updated with a new "last updated" date above.
Questions about this policy, or requests to see, correct or delete your data, can be sent to privacy@playgonu.com.
